Ghent joins forces to push forward Fair Local Green Deal
The City of Ghent joins forces with its local stakeholders to push forward a Fair Local Green Deal.
This deal will reinforce existing partnerships between companies, knowledge institutions, citizens, and many organisations already collaborating towards a climate-neutral Ghent.
Since Ghent signed the Covenant of Mayors in 2009 many initiatives, climate projects, and actions arose in the fields of energy, food, mobility, greening, housing, and circular economy. From large-scale industrial projects to small-scale start-ups and citizen initiatives. To accelerate and strengthen these actions, Ghent will now set up a Fair Local Green Deal with its stakeholders.
On June 27 2022 Ghent’s City Council signed an agreement with ICLEI, a renowned international organisation that supports cities in designing a Fair Local Green Deal. ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) is a global network of more than 2500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Ghent steps into an ICLEI project together with 2 Polish cities (Lodz, Wroclaw) and 2 Spanish cities (Valencia, Vitoria-Gasteiz).
