Applying for asylum

Do you wish to apply for international protection in Belgium? Submit an asylum application to the Immigration Office.

Report to the Immigration Office

Submit your asylum application at the registration centre of the Immigration Office in Brussels.

You will receive a proof of submission of your request (Annex 26) or a proof of submission of your subsequent request (Annex 26 quinquies).

You will also receive an appointment for your first interview.

Request your orange card

After your registration, you must request your orange card at the municipality where you will be living.

Your first interview

You will have a first interview at the Immigration Office.

You will be asked questions about the reasons for your request, in the presence of an interpreter.

Your second interview

The Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRS) will invite you for a second interview.

During this procedure, you can be assisted by a social worker, an organisation or a lawyer.

Decision

You will receive the decision by post.

If you are recognised as a refugee or granted subsidiary protection, you may apply for your residence card.
