Registration for the LEZ: priority and army vehicle
A priority or army vehicle that is not authorised to enter the low-emission zone can be registered free of charge.
Register your vehicle
You have to use the check tool first. Enter your vehicle's number plate and date of first registration. Answer the questions. If you meet the requirements, you can register the vehicle free of charge.
First check - then registerArmy vehicle: this includes all vehicles commissioned by the armed forces.
Priority transport includes
- police vehicles
- fire engines
- ambulances
- private ambulances (designed and specially equipped for transporting the sick and injured)
- and MUG (Mobile emergency group) vehicles (specially equipped to take an emergency medical team with equipment to an incident).
These vehicles are recognisable by their specific equipment: sirens and flashing lights (in accordance with the definition in Article 37 of the Highway Code). Please note: private vehicles belonging to doctors, nurses or healthcare providers are not included here.
The registration is valid until 31 December 2025.
What do you need?
- the registration certificate
- a photo with number plate and with the characteristics clearly visible
- armed forces: army vehicle clearly visible
- priority vehicle: blue flashing light and siren clearly visible

Make sure your vehicle is registered no later than 1 day after you entered the low-emission zone. That way, you will avoid a fine.
Please note: The decision on your application is not final until you receive confirmation. The processing of your application may take up to 14 days. If you enter the low-emission zone in Ghent before receiving confirmation, you do so at your own risk. If your application is subsequently rejected, you may receive a fine. It is therefore best to register in advance.
